While research is certainly not a required element of pediatric neurology residency training (several of our graduates elect to enter private practice), there are extensive research opportunities both within the division and throughout the medical school and university for those who desire. Our faculty members are engaged in many different areas of research from imaging to clinical trials to traditional bench research to educational studies.

Washington University prides itself on interdisciplinary collaborations. We have strong research relationships with areas such as radiology, psychology, hematology/oncology, molecular and cell biology, and neuroscience. Within the university are several research institutes with which the department has an extremely close association, including the McDonnell Center for Systems Neuroscience and the Hope Center for Neurological Disorders. During the final year of pediatric neurology training, residents have up to nine months of elective time that they can dedicate to research if they so choose.
