Soe S. Mar is a professor of neurology. Born and raised in Myanmar, she received her medical degree from Institute of Medicine I, Yangon. She finished pediatric training in UK, and obtained Membership of Royal College of Child Health.  She completed a pediatric neurology training as well as pediatric training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She joined the Department of Neurology at Washington University as faculty in 2005.

Mar’s clinical interests involve pediatric neuroimmunological disorders as well as genetic white matter diseases: pediatric multiple sclerosis, optic Neuritis, transverse Myelitis, NMO Spectrum Disorders including MOG ab associated disorders, acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis, acute Flaccid Myelitis, autoimmune encephalitis, opsoclonus Myoclonus Ataxia Syndrome (OMAS), leukodystrophies including Alexander disease, Adrenoleukodystrophy, Krabbes, Coats Plus, Aicardi- Goutières Syndrome, Canavan’s disease and other leukodystrophies. She is the medical director of pediatric onset MS and demyelinating diseases at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, Washington University.

 Mar’s research interest involve pediatric multiple sclerosis and other white matter diseases. She studies quality of life in pediatric MS, imaging and immune biomarkers of pediatric demyelinating diseases, in collaboration with US Network of Pediatric MS Centers. Her global research interests and projects include HIV, neuroimmunology and cognition as well as infectious and autoimmune encephalitis.

She is the program director of pediatric neurology residency training program at Washington University. She is actively involved in residency education as well as global health.
